Several years back, I came across a TED Talk for a "game" called SuperBetter. Have any of you heard of it? The idea is to create a hero name for yourself--an alter-ego, something that makes you feel powerful--and then do real-life "quests" to help you recover from an illness or an injury. The theory behind it is that treating these steps like a game, rather than unpleasant tasks, can help you to recover faster. (Look, she explains it all way better over here: http://www.superbetter.com)
Anyway. I decided that my heroic alter-ego would be the name you see here: Lizzie Mercury. It combines Elizabeth Bennet with Freddie Mercury, both of whom are pretty kickass people (even if one of them is fictional).
So nice to meet you! I realize these intro posts are probably supposed to have photos, but this blog of mine is more for trying to be a superhero for myself, and no good superhero shows her true identity. ;) I've been dealing with depression, anxiety, and--most recently--the loss of a loved one in my real life, and I'm hoping to use this blog to power through and overcome the things that keep trying to pull me down.
We'll see how it goes, right? :P For now, superhero out!
