I grew up in a household where music played a big part, with many genres. My father was a talented self-taught musician who played many instruments and used to play in one of the old Big Bands, the era of ballroom dancing, but his big love was Jazz.

I, on the other hand, played classical music on the piano; in fact, it was my dream to be a concert pianist, inspired by the Symphony Orchestras playing at ballets like Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and many more. My late uncle was a ballet dancer, so we could go backstage after the performances; I fell in love with this exciting world, beautiful music, dancing and the costumes!
However, as I was going for piano lessons, there was no money for ballet classes as well, but I was quite happy with just sitting behind the piano!

A song I will always remember singing as a young girl was Que Será, Será Whatever Will Be, Will Be, written by Jay Livingston / Ray Evans.

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?
Here's what she said to me
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

I really wanted to know what I was going to be one day, but my love of music grew, and I love all genres of music, from the classics to pop-rock.

So...I am sharing a couple of my favourites, a longish list, but hope you enjoy it as much as I did listening to them now again.

Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli

A perfect combination of two of my favourite singers changes this song with an orchestral remix into a Perfect Symphony!

Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - A Star is Born

An unforgettable moment in the movie A Star is Born, is the song Shallow, which was written by Lady Gaga.
The meaning of the song, in her own words is:

This is a conversation between a man and a woman, and he actually listens to her. And I think we live in a time when this is something that's really important to women. Women want to be heard.

Shallow

Tell me somethin', girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin' else you're searchin' for?
I'm fallin'
In all the good times, I find myself longin' for change
And in the bad times, I fear myself

Don't we all wish that we could just have one last chance...

I'll never love again

Wish I could, I could've said goodbye
I would've said what I wanted to
Maybe even cried for you
If I knew it would be the last time
I would've broke my heart in two
Tryna save a part of you

Queen

This to me is one of Queen's most beautiful songs that Freddie Mercury wrote for Mary Austin.

Love of my life

Love of my life, you've hurt me
You've broken my heart, and now you leave me
Love of my life, can't you see?
Bring it back, bring it back
Don't take it away from me
Because you don't know
What it means to me

I like to change that last phrase as I believe we all need to think of this when we don't understand why people react the way they do to a situation.

Because you don't know, what it means to BE me!

The Eagles

So, my love affair with the Eagles began many moons ago, but then the group disappeared off the scene and I forgot about them as my focus changed to bringing up two boys and listening to nursery rhymes.

In my 'almost silver years' I was mesmerized when I realized they had regrouped when I saw their awesome Farewell Tour in Melbourne 2004 at my brother's home.
I immediately went out and bought the DVD & CD and played it at every chance.

There are many favourites, like The Girl from Yesterday, Tequila Sunrise, No more Cloudy Days, A New Kid in Town, Hole in the World, and although Hotel California has been played to death, I still enjoy it.
Because of copyrights, one cannot find much on YouTube, so I watch & listen from my DVD player.

This performance of A New Kid in Town in memory of Glen Frey is not blocked!

Leonard Cohen - poet, singer, and songwriter

As you can see, I'm an ardent fan of the late great Leonard Cohen who wrote hauntingly beautiful songs filled with poetic wisdom. I love the way he acknowledged each musician so graciously in concerts.

There are many interpretations of the meaning of the beautiful song Dance me to the end of love, but many say it was written as a song against the horrors of the burning of Jews by the Nazis in the concentration camps, some who had a string quartet performing classical music while these horrors were going on!
To me, it also sounds like a longing for his beloved to be with him to the very end. I think that's the wish of many of us, not so!

The phrase from Anthem is one that I firmly believe in...

There's a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

The hauntingly beautiful song If it Be Your Will performed by the Webb sisters, was written by Leonard Cohen when he was going through a difficult period, and is more like a prayer.

If it be your will, that I speak no more
And my voice be still, as it was before
I will speak no more, I shall abide until
I am spoken for, if it be your will
If it be your will, that a voice be true
From this broken hill, I will sing to you
From this broken hill
All your praises they shall ring
If it be your will, to let me sing.

Leonard Cohen

Led Zeppelin

I believe we will all eventually walk the Stairway to Heaven; we are learning lessons here on earth all the time but likely need to learn a little more when we reach the other side.
Ann and Nancy Wilson's performance of one of the most iconic rock songs Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, brought tears to the eyes of the band members who were being honoured in this performance.

I hope you enjoyed listening to some of my favourite music which brought back happy memories, some oldies, and some not so old.

This blog helped me get closer to the finish line of #Hiveblopomo on day 23 of this initiative by the awesome bizzy Queen Bee traciyork@traciyork, encouraging all Hivers to write a blog a day for the month of April.

#Hiveblopomo has helped me make time for a blog a day, the income needed right now so I'm currently very sad, although thankful, that I have to power down once again as 2022 has brought many challenges!

I'm REALLY hoping things will start normalizing again as I'm definitely here to stay, until I one day journey on to the Stairway to Heaven!
