13 July 2017 is the day I was born into the world of Hive, so that makes me a whole five years old...here on Hive at least!

I'm going to take a nostalgic look at the past five years on Hive.
I have to admit that I've never set goals for myself here, however I simply love blogging and interacting with like-minded folk.

I was forced to say goodbye to the corporate world as I'd reached my sell-by-date just one and a half months before my Hive journey started.

Retirement did not mean that I was ready to go and laze on the beach sipping cocktails forever as I'd started our BnB Lily's Cottage about six months before.

Running our BnB kept me busy, but I missed the daily interaction with my work buddies, and that's a void that's been filled by Hive.
I could talk as much as I wanted here, without any interruption, and share many life stories, as well as my love of cooking and baking.

I never really focused much on my wallet, simply enjoyed meeting kindred spirits - some through the many foodie contests - the first of course being the Sandwich Contests, then along came Cook With Us where I met the most amazing talented foodies, the only remaining founder of that contest is @pandamama.
The lovely and super-talented @lenasveganliving and @plantstoplanks taught me a whole lot about vegan cooking in their Fruits and Veggies Monday, and I think this is where I first bumped into the equally super talented @carolynstahl, who still amazes with her fabulous food creations. @qurator continues tirelessly with their weekly foodie challenges, and I hope to get back to those again.

Taking care of Mom Lily during the last couple of years of her life, took up much of my time. It was worth it however, as she had sacrificed so much for us when we were growing up. I was able to share much of Mom's journey here on Hive, and am thankful that those memories are now stored forever.

It was @ericvancewalton, who must be one of my oldest and kindest Hive friends, and steered me towards this with his #blockchainmemoryproject.

Something else I've really enjoyed here in my Hive journey, has been sharing our beautiful diverse country in the travel communities that evolved from @Travelfeed to @HaveYouBeenHere and @Pinmapple.

As you can see, I really love my country, although I have been disillusioned lately with our leaders!

I've spoken of this before, but have to say it again - as a real Crypto virgin, I never ever dreamed that my Hive wallet would one day come to my rescue.
This first happened during our hard Covid lockdown, when the world stood still, with not much economic activity.
The Crypto scenario never changed during that period, and that was magical even though I had learned by that time that patience and HODL is the name of the game. However, when my purse carrying rands and cents ran dry, I was able to dip into my little Hive nest egg.

Another highlight has been starting my beloved Silver Bloggers Community as an absolute novice, but with the help of people such as @papilloncharity, @livinguktaiwan, and @fionasfavourites in the very beginning, I managed, and now have the most amazing team running this community of wise old souls.
A huge thank you also to @ocd who helped support our community members grow almost from the outset, which has been really encouraging.

What more can I say, except that I am now setting myself a goal of reaching my tenth birthday here on Hive, and will continue sharing life in general.
