Why My First Camera Buying Experience SUCKED! | Vlog #7 (DTube Exclusive)
After two very long days finally a new video!
Yesterday I got my new camera, a Canon G7 X Mark II which I was looking forward to get for almost one week now. I was waiting for a little price drop and found a good deal from a retailer not far away from my location.
But my buying experience was not great at all. Sometimes I just have the feeling there are some retailers who don’t know how to make money.
The warranty expansion drama
So, it was a trip of about half an hour by car to get to the city where the retailer was located. I went into the shop, told a shop assistant that I’m here to pick up my new camera and after he got some information from me he headed over to the warehouse to get it.
After we took a quick look that it actually was the correct camera and that everything that’s supposed to be was inside the box he asked me if i was interested in a warranty expansion for my new camera.
This wasn’t the first time somebody asked me this question when buying expensive electronics. And in general most retailers would just leave it when you told that not to be interested.
But not this guy!
He was asking me if I was sure and that he can only recommend and he’s not just trying to sell it but he’s convinced by himself and if something ever happens…
He was so busy with himself and his stupid warranty expansion that he completely forgot what my needs as a customer were.
I mean look at me I’m buying a camera and I have absolutely no clue about this. Maybe he could have asked things like:
“Is this your first camera or do you already have experience?”
“Should I maybe show you some of the basic features?”
“What are you planning to do with this device?”
“Are you more into photography or into movie making?”
“Oh, I see you want to make outdoor videos! Well, then I recommend to use a wind screen!”
“Oh, you want to place it on your table! Well, I guess you should probably get a tripod then!”
If he would have reacted this way, he could have sold me an additional wind screen and a tripod. But as this guy was so focused on his stupid warranty expansion he didn’t sell anything additional.
That’s why I took the camera, left the shop, headed for the next one and bought a tripod there!
So if you’re reading this and you’re also a salesman I can give you two very important tips:
1. Listen very carefully to your customers needs.
2. Ask the correct questions.
So guys and girls, what’s you opinion about that? Have you ever made similar experiences? Tell me about them in the comments below. I would like to know!
I hope you enjoyed this post. If you did, make sure to upvote, follow up and resteem. And what's most important…
…live your dream!
