My Wednesday Walk “Walk around the Iznájar Dam and through the Pine Forest, Cordoba province, Spain”

Today I want to share with you my Walk, with a few members of the Iznajar walking group, around the Iznájar Dam and through the pine forest, Cordoba province, Spain.
PRESA DE IZNÁJAR y PANTANO DE IZNÁJAR.
I lived in the countryside of Iznájar at that time…
We walked it 29 March 2015 and it was about 4km.
Photos are taken with my (late) Canon eos 550D and 18-135mm lens.
I will guide you through these photos as I follow the time stamps. So you can walk along and explore this area with me 😊

As you can see the town of Iznájar is across the lake.
The walking route:
We started at the green dot and finished at the red dot, last part of the route overlaps for about 800 meters
After we parked our cars we start walking along the road for a little while. The Pine Forest appears now on both sides.
We see pine cones on the ground next to us.
We pass by at closed gates from a restaurant.
Along the fence we see farm tools from days gone by…
My friends from the Iznájar walking group I walked this walk with, on a beautiful sunny day in late March. The tall man (Peter) on the right was my landlord. He still lives in the large old mill and I lived in the little casita on his grounds, where the mill worker used to live, long ago of course. As we walked a bit now, we see through the trees the lake appearing. The beautiful turquoise waters.
Let’s try and walk down towards the lake.
Some details on the lakeside.
The view we have. The land and pine forest you see on the left we walked through to get here.
Across the lake where we are standing. Olive trees everywhere and some farm houses.
Let’s walk a little along the water front.

I see something… in the far distance.
Let’s zoom in.
Yes, thought I saw the village of Iznájar itself in the distance. It is perched on top of the mountain you see here in the middle. The highest point is the castle. The layers are just amazing… and then you see the town 🥰
We walk further until I spot this tree.
As I walk towards it, closely I got an idea!
A little bit further… 😎🤓
Yes, I captured the town of Iznájar in between the branches of this tree.
We walk back up a little into the forest again, and reach sandy paths. We follow it.
We find abandoned wooden recreation huts… between the trees. They still look rather good.
Some closer by views.
We walk further as the forest is around us.
A little bit later we see the lake again and a long road down with a little pier.
I followed it down and saw this fisherman just catching a fish.
That’s a great catch 🎣
We talked a little when my friends arrived too, and he showed us the fish.
After a climb up again towards our path we followed.
We see residential houses high above us in the woods.
From there we have this lake view.
With lots of layers of mountains and hills in the distance.
We reach a large gate now. It is closed, but you can walk around it if you are careful.
At the end there:
Now there is a nice road we follow, not much people around anymore… just us and nature.
My friends. Peter spotted a look out/ view point.
I was distracted hahaha 🤣 next to me a tree stump. The bark is strangely peeled.
Of course I had to stop and photograph this.
And let’s not forget the flowers that are popping up next to the road… 😊🌸🌼
When I arrived at the view point Peter was waiting, we see the lake. It looks like it is divided. Or rain… but it didn’t rain.
We see a very smooth surface on one side of the lake, and the other part is choppy and rough. Makes for a very interesting photo, don’t you think?
Let’s walk further on the road.
Next to us some walls appear. And gates, but there is nothing behind them…

We walk further…
On the left side a balustrade… that follows us from now onwards along the road.
I find another interesting tree stump.
And flowers 🌸 🌸🌸
Let’s look closer 🥰🌸
I found some purple flowers 💜 my favourite colour.
As we walk further…
More steps that go nowhere…
Do I see some kind of transporting rails?
Going up the hill…
And more steps along the rails…
When I look back you see the steps and rails going up the hill. People must have transported goods like that up and down… hhhmmmm interesting 🤔

You must think by now where is the dam?
Let me show you what is next on our path:
Through the trees we see the IZNAJAR DAM
Let’s walk further, and have a closer look.
We see also a platform floating… must be fun in the summer to swim there and play around… 🏊🏻🏊🏻♀️
The Dam on one side…
Another view point, let’s go there and see if we can see more of the Dam.
The road across it…
The view on the other side of the dam.
The other side of the dam. Goes down quite a bit.
No… I’m not too close at the edge. I don’t fancy heights hahaha

Next to us a little further we see this Pillar.
Peter tells me when the dam was build and the land was flooded, “Franco” came here and held a speech. This was the area he gathered and spoke to the people of the surrounding towns.
He also told me, Franco had a holiday home here, just where we walked in the woods. He didn’t know which one though…
When we look up from this spot we see some ruins and a tower up on the mountain.
The views on this side of the dam:
So many olive fields…
Beautiful… the landscape is unique.
Below we see:
More ruins.
Zooming in… all abandoned.
One look up:
Now we walk back again.
I show you a few views from this side as it does look so different each way.
The pillar. With views across the lake in the distance.
At the edge… we see in the distance the spot we started our walk.
Next to that light sandy/ beach area.
More flowers, I didn’t see the first time 😊
Haven’t seen these bell like flowers before…
Past the gate and almost back at the dense pine forest I see a few more houses.
Looks like nobody is living there at this time.
And with this last photo of this terrace from one of the houses here, I finish our walk and end my #WednesdayWalk and #Makemesmile… post.
