This is a wonderful story of innocence lost, regained, and lost again. There's a wise acceptance that times change, and there are some things beyond our control but which can be used as learning experiences.

Today, I recognize that the hot coffee and the precise words of the late Elena cooled that hurtful offense. But the pain healed slowly, between the memories of the happy moments enjoyed with Raúl and the eternal gratitude for having protected me in my time of weakness.
