Thank you so much @agmoore, your insights are very spot on. I've been hammering away at this story for several weeks now, and it was twice as long. In a way the early drafts felt like world building. I became fascinated with this universe and why things were a certain way. Unfortunately, I had to remove a lot of that rich background to streamline the story. I am happy that the wonder of this enigmatic world still came through.
