To Valhalla! Shout the warriors in the heat of battle,
But I dream only of Fólkvangr
Where beauteous Freyja lies in her meadow
Drying golden tears in the stream
Drinking of the sweetest mead
I serve only gentle Freyja
Valkyrie damsels garland string
Of flowers necklace and stone runes
Bells of smoke in fairy rings
Where fertile Freyja rests
On beds of eager kisses braided in repose
Luxurious flavors of the flesh
Eternal glory in her Spring
So speak not of Valhalla
For I only have eyes for my sweet maiden
Who in her soft abode awaits
As I shout in glory to heaven
“Fólkvangr forever!”
Images generated by using Stable Diffusion software. In these pieces I sought to create art from Norse/Viking mythology. In my research, I learned that upon a warrior's death, the Valkyries and Odin determine where the warrior ends up in the after life. Valhalla is the most well known, but there are others, including Fólkvangr, which is the subject of this piece. It is supposed to be an idyllic meadow (or field) where the warrior can rest and enjoy the luxuries of the after-life, surrounded no doubt by beautiful Viking lasses and Freyja herself. What an (after) life!
