I remember this moment very clearly, even though more than ten years passed. Maybe it’s because this moment was quite extraordinary and that’s the reason I remember it so well. Back then, I was really into fantasy books and fantasy movies, loved dragons, elves and that sort of stuff. I was a Lord of the Rings fan and quite fascinated by the beauty of fantasy creatures, except for orcs.
I don’t remember what I was doing that evening but probably I was reading some fantasy book or watching a movie. Whatever that was, when I went to bed, I thought of fantasy creatures. Being almost asleep but awake enough, my imagination gave me an image of a fish. Yes, a fish. I know that might sound weird but I liked that image and after a few seconds I was fully awake, grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper and started to sketch! I was afraid that I would lose the image if I waited until morning. I made a quick sketch at night and continued with it in the morning. From the beginning, I knew that I would also paint it, and I did.
This painting is relatively large, 50x60 cm, and painted with acrylic paint. Even though I was happy with the result, I knew that this painting wouldn’t be hung on the wall in near future. I stored it and waited for the right time. Now that I have an 11 months old son, the time is finally right. Now I can decorate his room with it and I hope he’ll love it.
