Bilberry or Vaccinium myrtillus is one of the most common forest plants. In Finland, it is highly liked, appreciated and used. Bilberry grows well in young arctic pine forests with leafy trees and in fjelds. Bilberry is perennial flowering plant with blue-coloured berries. In a good bilberry year in Finnish forests may grow more than 300 million kilograms and in less fortunate year even under 100 million kilograms.
Why bilberry is considered as superfood? It is because of the high nutrient content and at the same time low in calories. So what is in bilberries?
