I stared out the window for a while, trying to take all this in. Cody seemed to have recovered from shock and startled me a bit when he said "Thanks." I turned to face him. "Oh, your welcome." I said trying to give him a smile. "Well, we're even now I guess. You stopped Henry from hurting me and I told you to duck when a bullet was about to hit your head."

Cody just stared at me. "Jessica, what I did was nothing, but you just kinda saved my life. I stopped some kid from punching you and got hurt myself, so what? Big deal, I'd get in a fight with him at some point anyways." He said sarcastically. "I never even thought there was anything to get even about! What kind of a person do you see me as?!"

I just stood there startled. I regretted ever saying anything. It hurt when he yelled at me and looked at me like that. I really didn't get why he was making such a big deal out of it. I was just trying to be nice!

After a short moment I was just plain pissed off. "Well, you know I didn't mean it like that!" I said with a slight edge to my voice. "I was just trying to be nice! Or lighten things up or something." I said, my voice getting quieter as I looked away.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that either." Cody said with a softer tone in his voice. I said nothing for a while, and just looked away. I didn't wanna meet his eyes. "My mom's gonna be home soon, you should probably leave." I said even though the clock only read 7:26.

"But---" Cody stopped himself. He got that I knew it was still early but only wanted him to leave because I was mad at him. "I guess I'll go then... See you tomorrow?"

I said nothing and lead him out of my room and to the door. He opened the door and stepped outside, and was about to shut the door when he turned around. He caught me by surprise and our eyes met. He leaned in and kissed my cheek. "I'm really sorry."

He shut the door and walked off. I just stood there, a bit shocked and my cheeks turning pink. I felt all confused for a second then realized that I wasn't mad anymore and felt stupid for ever being mad. It's not like he meant it all mean, he was probably just a little worked up over the near death experience.

Cody stopped and turned around as he heard the door open. I didn't really know what to say so I just stood there for a moment. He knew what I was gonna say but just stood there not coming back or anything. I hate how he's doing that! I thought.

I sighed. "Well, sorry for making such a big deal out of what you said. It was a bit stupid of me."

"What?" He chuckled. "Stupid of you? No, I think anyone would've taken it that way. I did say it a bit harsh. And I'm sorry."

We just stood there for a while. "Well, you know.. my mom doesn't come home for another hour and a half, so... If you wanna still stay..." My voice trailed off.

"No dur." He laughed.

We walked back to my room and I realized that I'd have to explain the bullet in my wall and the hole in the window to my mom, when she got home. "What do I tell my mom?" I said looking from the window to the wall.

Cody seemed to just notice the problem at hand as well. "Well, you could just tell her some random dude came and shot your window...It's not like she'll be able to yell at you for that." He paused. "Maybe she could scold you to be safer or something, like moms always do, but I doubt you'd get in any serious trouble." He reassured me. "She might just get a little more protective though."

"True." I walked over to the bullet and stared at it. After a while, I poked it with displeasure. In the next second the strangest thing happened! The bullet dissappeared into thin air and the hole in the wall was gone.

I stared wide-eyed. Then, without thinking, I walked over to the window and poked the glass. It all fixed itself up. Cody was staring at me wide-eyed, the same way I was staring at the glass. "There goes our evidence." He said. "Well at least I don't have to explain nothing to my mom..!" I said, looking on the bright side.
