I can't wait to have our wedding done. My love for you is increasing by the day.
Joy looked into the eyes of her fiancé, Bright and whispered some romantic lines to him. The love story of the duo was an inspiration to most people around them. Bright can't live a day without seeing Joy. Both of them are counting days to the proposed wedding of six months away.
On a fateful evening, while on her way to meet Bright, Joy was stopped by one of the bad boys in the area.
Hey you girl, I want to see you.
Capon, as he is known in the street, stopped Joy in a hush tone. Joy looked back to see the person calling him holding a wrap of Indian hemp with a rough dreadlock on his head. The eyes were red and evidence of drug addiction was all over him.
She was confused whether to stop and listen to him or to decline and run home. She decided to do the former because the latter poses danger for her for as long as she remains in the town and she is prone to be seen some other days.
Yes. What can I do for you? She responded.
Capon wasted no time to express his love and affection to Joy.
I like everything about you and I wish to marry you.
He was intermittently puffing his wrap and releasing the smoke into the air - an action irritating and causing inconvenience to Joy.
I'll think about it and give you the feedback.
Joy responded and all she wanted to achieve is to be released by Capon. She wasn't interested in the discussion.
I will be expecting to hear from you. I know you have a boyfriend, Bright but I want you to know that I, Capon, don't beg for anything, I go for whatever I want in any way and every way necessary to get it. Give me positive feedback for your own good.
Capon concluded with some words of threat.
Capon belongs to a notorious group of criminals terrorizing the peace of the people. They had been accused of many crimes like robbery, kidnapping for ransom and so on. All the efforts of the police to arrest Capon have not been successful. He was once arrested and jumped out of a police vehicle while being transported to the station. Some policemen face disciplinary actions as a result of the escape. Capon was operating a government of his own.
Joy explained all that transpired to Bright.
That guy is dangerous to deal with. He rarely gives up on any lady he is interested in but I'll defend our love against any intruder.
Bright gave words of assurance before they parted ways for the day.
Few weeks later when Capon realized that Joy wasn't ready to agree to his request, he went to extremes to take away the stumbling block.
Bright was walking home from a gym in the evening when a bus suddenly parked behind him. Before he could decipher what was happening, he saw a gun pointed at him while he was directed to get into the bus. He was kidnapped and taken to their criminal abode deep inside the forest. He was blindfolded throughout the journey.
When the blindfold was removed, the first person he saw was Capon and at this point, the reason behind the whole actions was clear to him.
You are blocking my access to a fruit I want to pluck. I warned you through your so-called fiancé and I believe she delivered my message but you are acting like a defiant fly that follows the corpse to the grave. The reason that brought you here is one; to denounce your love for Joy. Your fate lies in my hands whether to allow you to go or to kill you here. Capon stated.
Bright was silent and this infuriated Capon who ordered that he should be dealt with.
Later in the evening, like they always do when they have any victim in custody in the forest, Capon and his gang left the forest to go and have fun in town leaving a member with a gun to look after Bright, who was tied up, till they return before midnight.
Instead of concentrating on the assignment of looking after Bright, the guy was busy drinking and smoking.
Bright luckily found a way to lose himself and crawled to where Jack was seated.
When Jack noticed some movements, he went straight to get his gun that he dropped beside earlier. However, it was too late as Bright's hand reached the gun before Jack's. Bright immediately took control of Jack and he directed him to lead them out of the forest. Jack wanted to give a fight but Bright, with his well built muscles, had the upper hand.
Jack led both of them out into the nearest town - a town that is 30 kilometers away from where Bright was kidnapped. Bright raised an alarm as they stepped into the town and both of them were arrested and taken to the police station.
After listening to Bright, a team of police detectives were deployed to track the remaining gang members to the forest. The forest was combed and Capon was arrested with his members after almost two hours of exchange of gunfire that left two police injured and a member of the gang killed. The news of the arrest was celebrated across the towns in the neighborhood.
Capon was charged to court for kidnapping, possession of unlawful weapons and other charges. He pleaded not guilty in court and the stage was set for full trial. Witnesses were called and many previous victims showed up to testify against the criminals.
The judge before giving his verdict made a statement,
You always boast being in position to determine the fate of your victims. Many have been killed by you as a result while some lucky ones were released. Today, your fate is in the hands of the law of the land. It can only take time, the hands of the law must always catch up with criminals.
The judge sentenced Capon with his members to life imprisonment.
The whole town and the neighboring ones celebrated Bright as the hero that liberated the towns from Capon.
