If the answer to that question is "no" then you have to plan for it. The old Dubrovik is probably the most beautiful Croatian city at the shores of Adriatic Sea. Not that I have been to all of them, it's just that I won't forget its amazing architecture and the good deep positive feelings I got about it.
I imagine in the summer season the streets will be overcrowded with tourists but I was lucky to be there for few days at the edge of the year, sending away the old one and meeting the newly born one ;)
I wouldn't spend less than 2 days there. The city has its night and day time beauties.
I've made a long exposure with my camera set on the tripod so you get a sense of the central street. Quite a Venetian feel, right? It wasn't cheap being there, a modest dinner for two cost us more than 100 EUR but that maybe a special "holiday" price, I guess. Still, so many romantic scenes to see...
The fortress at night is simply magical, orange tress full of fruits even at the cold winter, amazing ;)
If you are comfortable walking for several hours in a row, there is one thing you should definitely do - walk the old city fortress walls. They form a full round so if you do enjoy the different views at the different parts of the day, one could do few round-trips, I suppose. Two or three max as it isn't such a short distance.

The New Years Eve was one to remember, music, joy, light, huge fireworks show and so many happy people around us...
Too bad I didn't right down the name of this rock group, I enjoyed their set of pop-rock songs in Croatian, even without understanding most of the lyrics. :)
