Choose 3 people. Real or literary. Dead or alive. I have 6 children. Children love stories. I love storytelling and reading. Who doesn't love a good story??!? If I were to have a dinner party and could invite anyone to come, I would have to meld the world of fiction with the real world. There are many choices. I thought of what kind of environment I would want to have with my family. Awkward conversations? No. Heated Debates? Nope. What do I enjoy listening to when people come to my home? Stories! Stories from their lives are the best, and they are captivating. (Have I used the word story enough yet? My apologies.) I chose 3 people that you may know and love. If you take the time to read this, I would love to hear your choices as well. Here is the prompt if you care to join: Choose 3 People. galenkp@galenkp

First on my list has to be Uncle Remus. He captivated my mind with tales of Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, Brer Fox and the Briar Patch when I was growing up. Zippity-doo-dah was a song that we sang in my family quite often. It lifts your spirit and helps you look for the good. I read the book with those stories and they never got old. I know if Uncle Remus was sitting at my table that he would captivate all of us. He has a tale for anything and any trouble. He will weave a lesson with his words. My kids would learn life lessons without even knowing it was happening. He is always smiling and jolly when he is recounting his stories as well and who wouldn't love someone like him at their table.

My second guest would also be literary. Sherlock Holmes would be a legend to sit at the table. I could picture him analyzing us while making our jaws drop with his seemingly supernatural ability to take in every detail about everything. An old school detective superhero with endless amounts of stories involving his solved mysteries. I can picture my kids' faces with their mouths agape listening to him like he was a mind magician. I think that it would also be inspiring in their choosing future professions.

Lastly, since we only get to choose 3, would be Paul Harvey. He has passed, but I would love to hear his stories in person. He was on the radio for a long time doing a small ditty called "The Rest of the Story." He would share stories about people's lives. He would start by sharing tidbits and pieces of trivia about the person, building up the story and not revealing the identity until the end. I remember hearing these little "shows" when I was growing up and was always fascinated learning about real people's lives and their stories. It is amazing to hear how people came to be and the choices that led to their success or notoriety. His segments were usually just a few minutes, but he drew you in like a master. Not only would he be great for a dinner party but would get anyone listening interested in learning about other people in history in their spare time.

There you go, those are my 3 choices. Would you like to attend that dinner party? I didn't even talk about the food we would have, but honestly with that guest list- would it even matter??
