"Honor the friendships that allow you to pick up from where you last left off, regardless of how long it's been since you connected. The friendships that survive hiatuses, silences, and space. Those are the connections that never die."
Then again, I would want to share another quote I saw while scrolling through various social media platforms. It's so wonderful how algorithm works since I get to read heartfelt and inspiring quotes as I go through the different platforms. I guess sharing what I read through my blog posts will shed some light and also touch the hearts of others. With the quote that I read, I realized that true friendship does not require daily hangouts and the like because true friendships surpass the hiatuses.
Before we began a series of activities, we decided to take a group selfie since the lighting was good and of course for the memories. Seeing these photos made me teary-eyed because we indeed have grown so much literally and figuratively and I just can't help but be grateful.
Recently, just a couple of days ago, my bestfriends and I decided to meet-up in order to try some new activities. A few months back, I have always wanted to try wall climbing and so I contacted different gyms in the city to check for availability. Fortunately, I was able to contact Holiday Gym and Spa and when I informed my bestfriends, Pamela and Justin, they could not be any happier. I am that friend who enjoys inviting my other friends to try activities that will help us stay fit.
My bestfriends and I decided to visit Holiday Gym and Spa and try out their different amenities. The gym was quite spacious and there were a lot of fun activities to try aside from the usual gym set-up. We were ecstatic to see the wall climbing area but I have to be honest I was quite anxious because I am afraid of heights but my friends managed to encourage me all throughout the climb.
Pamela and Justin have been my bestfriends ever since we were in our first year in high school. It was not the type of friendship where we hangout or talk with each other everyday. We were quite busy individuals when we were in high school since we had to juggle academics and extra-curricular activities. In spite of our busy schedule, we somehow manage to maintain the connection. I am not the type of friend who tends to be clingy or gets jealous whenever I see my bestfriend hangout with someone else. I prefer low-maintenance friendships because those work best for me and I do believe that we have our own lives to live.
We maximized our visit to the gym and decided to spontaneously try out their different amenities. After wall climbing, we decided to try boxing and even went for a quick run at their jogging track.
By being friends with them for the last 10 years, I realized that just like any other relationship, friendships require understanding and compromise without changing a part of us just to fit in or be accepted. It needs compromise because we have to accept that we are different individuals who have different values, beliefs, and priorities. Despite the differences, a true friend understands and helps you grow into a better person.
After our visit to the gym, we ordered takeout food then we headed to Merci, a French dessert place in order to catch-up about the happenings in our respective lives. It was a bit pricey but the desserts were absolutely good.
I have always appreciated my friendship with Pamela and Justin because I could really see how we have grown as individuals. We realized how grateful we are for the friendship because it has always been there for us. This is what friendship is for me because the last 10 years have been the easiest because of them.
Just quick mirror selfies with the ones who matter the most. It was a fun and memorable day and I truly enjoyed every minute of it. It honestly felt like we were still 13-year old teenagers.
How about you? Do you also have friends for more than 10 years? How do you manage to sustain a friendship for years?
