Greetings to all wonderful parents in this community, this is my first post in this community, as I'm new on hive and it's feels good to have a community for mothers in this platform. I'm so delighted. You can know more about me reading my introductory post.
This picture is just an expression to show how my daughter is feeling right now, it's been four days now that I started weaning her and she have not been finding it easy at all, well the feeling is mutual. My daughter's name is Marvelous and it feels good to introduce Marvelous to everyone in the house, I had the intentions to breastfeed my daughter till 24 months because that's the best thing to do but lately I feel really exhausted and tired, she keep sucking like a new born and I just had enough of it, I'd love the kind of bonding nursing her brings and I'd always love to comfort her that way but it's started affecting my own mental health and I just need a break from her having possession of my breast, lol, it's time to take my breast back, so we started this journey four days ago.
Mum stop where did my breast go, don't joke with me woman, that's her expression whenever she's looking for breast eheheheeh, she would literally be dragging my cloth with me like I'm denying her of her right but then I'd always distract her with other things and then there will be peace for a while.
So before I started, I watched videos on YouTube and did some research about weaning and realized I can't stop it all at once and I needed to start it slowly, so I took the advice and started slowly.
It was on a Saturday, she didn't go to school, she was with me all through the day, when she woke up and wanted breast milk, I gave her another option which was whole milk before preparing her breakfast after that I ensure she ate well before her napping time, once it's was her napping time it means it's time for nursing( dont judge I don't sleep train her, it was too much for me) I refuse to nurse her and pet her to sleep and that works, I was happy, I'm making progress. All through the day she was busy playing and eating normal foods but I know the issue will be the night nap, so it was time to sleep and I was able to pet her to sleep, I ensure she was very tired and ate enough food but she woke up again after two hours and refuse all my petting and wanted to nurse, it was a power tussle for about one hour before she slept and still woke up again, at a point I gave in because I was really tired and for the first time in a long time she nursed only one time all through the night and that gave me moral as that's a good start.
Day two was like a miracle, she nursed after Sunday service and didn't nurse although the night, she woke up just once in the night, I gave her milk and she slept off even without me petting her, I was super happy.
She went to school and when she came back I ensure she ate enough food and when it was time to nap, I had to pet her and she slept off without much battle, she slept at night and woke up to take milk and slept back.
She's gradually getting used to it, so sometimes she still wants to nurse but she's gradually understanding the word no, she will cry a bit but I'd distract her, it's been 24 hours with her sucking breast and I'm really happy about that.
That has been my four days experience while weaning my daughter and I left the part of the pains I also do feel from the fullness of my breast, it's been a roller coaster ride but my joy is it's won't always be like that. Thank you all for you time and I'd like to read from the comment section, how was your experience weaning your child?
