Hello dear Hivers!
I decided to make a series of interesting facts about different countries. And of course I will start with my home Bulgaria 馃嚙馃嚞. Many people have not even heard of our country, but today I will tell you some interesting things about it ...
One of the oldest countries
Bulgaria was founded in 681 by Khan Asparuh. This makes it one of the oldest countries in Europe. And it hasn't even once changed its name in almost 1,500 years.
The invincible flag
During all these years, our flag was never lost in battle by the Bulgarian soldiers.
The beginning of modern technology
Did you know that the first digital computer in the world was created by a Bulgarian? Yes, and his name is John Atanasov.
Ancient and eternal
The second largest city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv is not only one of the most beautiful in the world, but also one of the oldest. It is more than 8000 years old and today in many places in the city you can see the remains of different eras and peoples who lived on its lands. And just a fact - the great Rome is less than 3000 years old.
On three seas
Today our country is relatively small in territory. But about a thousand years ago there was a period in which our territories reached three seas - White, Adriatic and Black. This is one of the most successful and strong periods in Bulgarian history and it is no coincidence that it is called the Golden Age.
Different gestures
All over the world, people nod "yes" and turn their heads if they want to say no. But wait. Everywhere in the world, but not in Bulgaria! The opposite is true here, and even I can't tell you why we do it that way.
A different holiday
If you have come to Bulgaria you have certainly heard of Baba Marta. It amazes all foreigners. We celebrate it on the first day of March and tie martenitsas on our hands. These so interesting red and white bracelets bring good luck and health.
The best yogurt
The best yogurt in the world is produced in Bulgaria. This is due to a specific bacterium Lactobacillus bulgaricus, which is found only in our territory. Attempts have been made for synthetic production, but nowhere has the same taste and consistency been achieved in addition to many useful properties. So you have to come and try!
A song in space
A song in space? You must think I'm crazy. But yes, a Bulgarian folk song is heard in outer space. Years ago, the famous song "Izlel e Delio Haidutin" was sent to the American "Voyager". The song is performed by the unique bulgarian singer Valya Balkanska.
Great Cathedral
Bulgaria is proud not only of its history, but also of its religion. Although we have been under Ottoman rule for 5 centuries, we have preserved Christianity. Today we can boast of one of the most beautiful and largest on the Balkan Peninsula Eastern Orthodox Cathedral - Alexander Nevsky in Sofia.
High in the sky
Speaking of the largest on the Balkan Peninsula, I can not miss Mount Musala. Our nature is one of the most beautiful in the world and the mountains prove it. Our highest peak is Musala (2925 meters) in the Rila Mountains. It is slightly higher than the Greek Olympus and this gives it first place on the Balkan Peninsula.
First in the world
Unfortunately, in many charts today we are at the bottom. But there is also something in which Bulgaria is number one and there is no one to beat us. This is the production of rose oil. Our country produces over 3/4 of the world's rose oil. Not only that, but Bulgarian oil is one of the highest quality and is widely used in the cosmetics industry.
There are dozens of other interesting facts about my country that even many Bulgarians do not know. This is really only a small part. I'll be glad to hear if you liked it. And if so, would you like a second part?
Thank you for your attention!
