CAMERA ROTATION PHOTOGRAPHY

Yesterday I had the impulse to bring some order into the chaos in my warehouse. Some dried thistles fell into my hands. I had taken some pictures with them some time ago, so I wanted to throw them away as a first impulse. Then I thought it would be better to take a few more camera rotation pictures than to continue cleaning up.

It took me a few attempts to reach this result. Either too much light or too little. In some attempts, the angles did not fit when rotating.

At first, I had illuminated the thistles with the Emisar D4V2. I rotated the camera around the optical axis in 9 steps during the exposure. For the second round, I then lit black glass fibres with the Lightpainters torch from Light Painting Paradise in flash mode. First I had attached a blue colour filter between the torch and the glass fibres. For the final result I decided to use green.

Here you can see the penultimate version. I actually like the picture quite a lot. But I wanted to make another version with softer bokeh. For this reason, I turned the focus to infinity and opened the aperture to 5.6. Before that, I had reduced the brightness of the Lightpainters torch by a few levels.

Hier seht ihr die vorletzte Version. Das Bild gef盲llt mir eigentlich ganz gut.

At first I had taken some versions without the bokeh of the glass fibres.

This is what the setup for the pictures looked like. Not exciting at all, is it?

Enough for today. I'll go and tidy up some more... so maybe. Unless I come across something interesting again.

Genug f眉r heute. Ich geh mal weiter aufr盲umen... also vieleicht.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
