The city of Görlitz in Saxony is something special. Probably nowhere else are there as many old buildings in good condition as there. For this reason, many films are shot there, such as Grand Budapest Hotel. In addition, most people there are very open-minded about art. They willingly let us into their unique buildings. At this point I would like to thank Danilo from Görlitz, who has been supporting us in Görlitz for many years.
Die Stadt Görlitz in Sachsen ist schon etwas Besonderes. Vermutlich gibt es nirgendwo sonst soviele alte Gemäuer in gutem Zustand wie dort. Aus diesem Grund werden dort sehr viele Filme gedreht, wie beispielsweise Grand Budapest Hotel. Darüber hinaus sind die meisten Menschen dort sehr aufgeschlossen für Kunst. Bereitwillig lassen sie uns in ihre einzigartigen Gebäude. An dieser Stelle möchte ich mich bei Danilo aus Görlitz bedanken, der uns seit vielen Jahren in Görlitz unterstützt.
We took this picture in a former department stores' in the city centre of Görlitz. The department stores' has been empty for many years and was temporarily only used as a warehouse for some shops in the area.
First I illuminated our model Marlene with the Light Scanner and then the stairs with blue light. For the red light behind the window, I had placed an RGB spotlight with radio remote control there and then switched it on for a few seconds in the last step. The large shop windows let a lot of light into the room, which you can see quite well on the right pillar in the picture. As a result, we were very limited with the exposure time, more than 40 to 50 seconds were not possible. I also didn't have enough black molleton with me to cover all the shop windows. But that's how it is in light painting. You have to adapt to the conditions and can't always expect to work in complete darkness.
Dieses Bild haben wir in einem ehemaligen Kaufhaus in der Görlitzer Innenstadt aufgenommen. Seit vielen Jahren steht das Kaufhaus leer und diente zwischenzeitlich nur als Lager für einige Geschäfte in der Umgebung.
Zuerst habe ich hier unser Model Marlene mit dem Light Scanner eingeleuchtet und im Anschluß die Treppe mit blauem Licht beleuchtet. Für das rote Licht hinter dem Fenster hatte ich dort einen RGB Scheinwerfer mit Funkfernbedienung paltziert und diesen dann im letzten Schritt für einige Sekunden eingeschaltet. Durch die großen Schaufenster drang zeimlich viel Licht in den Raum, man sieht es am rechten Pfeiler im Bild ganz gut. Dadurch waren wir mit der Belichtungzeit sehr begrenzt, mehr als 40 bis 50 Sekunden waren nicht möglich. Ich hatte auch nicht genug schwarzen Molton mit um die Schaufenster alle abdecken zu können. Aber so ist das numal im Light Painting. Man muss sich den Gegebenheiten anpassen und kann nicht immer erwarten, dass man in kompletter Dunkelheit arbeiten kann.
We took this picture at the Brauner Hirsch, a former inn on Götlitz's Untermarkt. Here, too, we had to struggle with the street lighting, although not as much. The window is above the street lighting. The street lamps emit most of the light downwards. Here I first illuminated Marlene several times with the scanner. Then I lit up Erik. Both then left the scene and I lit the stairs. This makes them both appear like ghosts from days long gone. The Brauner Hirsch is already many hundreds of years old and in some areas hardly anything has changed since the Middle Ages.
Im Braunen Hirsch, einem ehemaligen Gasthof am Götlitzer Untermarkt, haben wir dieses Bild aufgenommen. Auch hier hatten wir wieder mit der Straßenbeleuchtung zu kämpfen, wenn auch nicht so stark. Das Fenster liegt oberhalb der Straßenbeleuchtung. Die Straßenlaternen geben das meiste Licht nach unten ab. Hier habe ich zuerst Marlene mehrfach mit dem Scanner eingeleuchtet. Danach habe ich Erik eingeleuchtet. Beide gingen dann aus der Szene und ich beleuchtete die Treppe. Dadurch erscheinen beide wie Geister aus längst vergangenen Tagen. Der Braune Hirsch ist schon viele hundert Jahre alt und in einigen Bereichen hat sich seit dem Mittelalter kaum etwas verändert.

We took this picture in the courtyard of the Brown Stag. First I used a UV torch to illuminate the mask. I had painted the area around the eyes with UV active paint. Then I blew some fog into the courtyard and shone the red Convoy S2+ behind the model. In the last step, I indirectly lit the front area with the Fenix LR35R.
Dieses Bild haben wir im Hof des Braunen Hirsch aufgenommen. Zuerst habe ich mit einer UV Taschenlampe die Maske beleuchtet. Den Bereich der Augen hatte ich mit UV aktiver Farbe bemalt. Danach habe ich etwas Nebel in den Hof geblasen und mit der roten Convoy S2+ hinter dem Model geleuchtet. Im letzten Schritt habe ich den vorderen Bereich indirekt mit der Fenix LR35R beleuchtet.
In the last picture for today, I quickly shot an orb in the same place and then indirectly lit the scene from the front again. For the orb I had two of the Lightpainter torches from @ryuslightworks with a short acrylic rod for the centre and a small diffuser attached to a rod on the outside.
Im letzten Bild für heute habe ich an gleicher Stelle noch schnell einen Orb gedreht und die Szene dann wieder indirekt von vorne beleuchtet. Für den Orb hatte ich zwei der Lightpainter Taschenlampen von @ryuslightworks mit einem kurzen Acrylstab für die Mitte und einem kleinen Diffusor außen an einem Stab befestigt.
That was a very cool trip to Görlitz with @gunnarheilmann, @marlasinger666, Erik, Danilo and Marlene. We should repeat this quite soon.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The artist illuminates the scene with diverse light sources and paints light traces into the picture with various light tools. In addition, we use various other techniques, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited.
All our pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, our pictures are not processed on the computer.
