THE PATH OF LIGHT

Yesterday I was walking alone in the forest at night, in a very special forest. The entire forest floor was densely covered with snowdrops. This forest was originally part of an estate. Obviously, the forest was artificially created a few hundred years ago, as a kind of park. For many years, the forest has been left to its own devices and is thus a unique biotope for many animals and plants.

I first illuminated the forest with the Emisar D4K. On the way back, I painted the green light trail on the path with a thick fibre optic cable.

Somehow it didn't exactly go like clockwork last night. The first picture of the evening was completely black. After walking through the forest with the torch for 5 minutes, I noticed that the lens cap was still on the lens. Something so stupid has never happened to me in my life. I briefly thought about packing the stuff back up and going home.

I also wanted to succeed in illuminating the forest only after dozens of attempts. Sometimes there are days when nothing really works. After a cigarette break, things went a little better. In this picture, the green trace of light was too present. I then repeated the picture again. The final result is the title picture.

Manchmal gibt es so Tage wo nichts so richtig funktionieren will.

I had an audience once again. Several deer were watching my actions from some distance. Probably these three comrades here:

Ich hatte wieder einmal Zuschauer. Mehrere Rehe beobachteten mein Tun aus einiger Entfernung. Wahrscheinlich diese drei Kameraden hier:

The deer were already quite relaxed when we discovered them during our walk in the morning. I didn't take the picture with the big telephoto lens, but with my mobile phone from a few metres away.

Our walk took us to the Salzhaff. Finally, a few days of peace and quiet from the noise and stress of the stinking big city.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
