Inspired by the leaf-strewn floor of Queen Victoria Park in Beechworth yesterday, I painted this abstract work to capture the colours and texture I felt as I explored. ("Crunch, scrunch").
They look a little autumnal, even though it is springtime here that was the colour palette of the ground.
The reserve is of scientific—botanical—significance for its collection of rare mature conifer trees. It includes two Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda)—the only known examples in Victoria, this is one of them—and the largest known specimen of the Big Cone Pine (Pinus coulteri). 
Other unusual trees of note are a Himalayan White Pine (Pinus wallichiana), a Bentham Cypress (Cupressus lusitancia var benthami), Cupressus torulosa var corneyana, two Incense cedars (Calocedrusdecurrens) plus two huge Sierra Redwoods (Sequoiadendron giganteum).
