Again, with this painting I'm working to keep away from the details and just focus on the essentials. I have a number of images from other artists coming to mind, all of which I could not name. But I guess it is a theme and sentiment that has been oft rendered throughout the ages, unless it was one of those where this sort of thing was frowned upon.
Ah, hang on Klimt, is one that I am thinking of. This is appropriate since a number of his works are around the corner. The theme would resonate well with him.
This reminds me of an amusing experience I had, standing outside the Upper Belvedere Palace, where I was helping some Australian tourists out with directions and suggestions. They were asking if the Belvedere was worth visiting. "Of course!", I exlaimed, then explaining some of the great works of art to be seen inside. Some of those of course are from Klimt. "Who's that?" What? They'd never heard of Gustav Klimt? Art Nouveau? Ah well, then, purchase a ticket and see what all of the fuss is about.
Maybe they lived under a rock, or maybe I have my nose stuck in art books. One of the two.
