Welcome to my blog of life in the high desert of the San Luis Valley, Colorado. My family raises grass fed/finished beef here and I live in an adobe house built in the 1860’s. We are remote enough that MapQuest does not recognize our address, and if that isn’t enticing enough our valley has had multiple UFO sightings dating back to the 1600’s. Oh, and let’s not forget about the local the alligator farms.
The San Luis Valley is considered a high desert and is the headwaters of the Rio Grande River. Our abode is exposed on this windy plain with the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the east and the San Juans to the west. The land is raw, rugged and energizing.
Introducing our beef:
I am an artist and my work is deeply informed by this powerful landscape. The work is textured with plasters and stucco and other mixed media. Here is a work showing a detail of nearby Mount Blanca, sacred to the Kapote band Ute Indians. I have also included a photo of Mount Blanca taken from our house.
