Desire means a strong longing for something one wants to achieve in life. Weak desire brings weak results while strong desire leads to actualization of great dreams of one's life.
A story told by Henry Ford, the owner of ford motors,one Americas millionaire of his days. He had a strong desire to produce his famous v-8 motor's, he chose to build an engine with the entire eight cylinders cast in one block, and instructed his engineers to produce a design for the engine. The design was placed on paper, but the engineers told him that it was simply impossible to cast an eighth cylinder engine block in one piece. Ford said, "produce it anyway "it's impossible the engineers told him.
"Go ahead "Ford commander. Stay on the job until you succeed, no matter how much time is required ".
The engineers went ahead. There was nothing else to do if the were to remain Ford 's staff. Six months pass by, nothing happened. Another six months passed and still nothing happened. The engineers tried every conceivable plan to carry out the order but the thing seemed impossible.
At the end of the year Ford checked with his engineers and again they told him they had found no way to carry out his order. "Go right ahead"said Ford. "I desire it and I must have it "they went ahead and then as if by a stroke of magic, the secret was discovered. Henry Ford was a success because he understood and applied strong desire as a principle of becoming a great.
A man called Edwin C. Barnes had a keen desire to go into business relationship with great Thomas Edison. Here is what he said, "I will see Edison, and put him on notice that I have come to do business with him. There is one thing I desire in this world and I am determined to have, and that is a business association with Thomas A. Edison. When he stood before Edison, his desire was achieved.
A genuine desire to pursue your purpose is not born in indifference, laziness, or lack of ambition. Desire is the initial force that propels accomplishment,large or small.

With a strong desire, even if you have a poor family background, it will not hinder you from achieving greatness. Abraham Lincoln, the world outstanding leader ,had a family background that was nothing to write about. He desired strongly to climb over such background to join the club of greatness. His father was a poor farmer and there was no money to send him to school. He began to borrow books from people and his own, he learnt how to read and write. He failed several times both in business and pursuit of political position, but his fervent desire to be great drove him to several further attempt. He eventually rose up to be a lawyer and the sixteenth president of the United States of America.
Strong desire for achievement, which is your first step for becoming great, cannot produce the expected results when left all alone. It is necessary for you to back it up with persistence.To persist means to insist on achieving what you desire, irrespective of possible obstacles, difficulties and critisms.In fact, what determines the strength of your desires is your level of persistence.
Everyone desires success but several people back out as soon as they encounter storms on the way. If everyone desires greatness, then it means that one of the things that will distinguish those who will achieve it from those who will not is persistence.
