I thought I cannot write my blog today due to the scheduled power interruption in our area. Luckily, the repairs are done early. 😇 Hello Hive Fam, most especially all the wonderful pet lovers around the world! 💕
Yesterday was not my usual routine. As many of you know, part of my daily side hustle is feeding my neighbor’s chickens once a day at exactly 5 PM Philippine time. It’s a simple but meaningful responsibility that connects me to these feathered friends. But yesterday, the skies told a different story.
Around past 4 PM, I noticed the clouds gathering, darker than usual, and the wind starting to shift. My instincts told me that heavy rains were about to pour, and if I waited until 5 PM, the chickens might not get their meal in peace. So, I rushed to the backyard earlier than usual, carrying their food and preparing myself for a quick errand before the storm arrived.
Unlike other pets that might run toward you, these chickens have their own places in the backyard. Each one stayed in its chosen spot, calmly waiting for the feed to reach them. I scattered the food across their areas, and they began eating right where they were; no gathering, just a quiet routine in their little corners. I couldn’t resist taking random photos: the dramatic dark sky above, the chickens pecking in their spaces, and the two mother hens who have already laid eggs, carefully guarding their nests.
It was a short but memorable errand. Feeding them earlier than usual felt like racing against nature, yet it gave me a chance to appreciate the bond we form with animals, even when they’re not our own. These chickens may belong to my neighbor, but caring for them has become part of my rhythm and part of my connection to the Hive Pets Community.
