From Feeding Chickens to Growing Plants: A Tour of My Humble Mini-Garden (First Post in HiveGarden)
Hello, HiveGarden friends! 😊
This is my first time posting in this lovely community, and I'm happy to finally share a small part of my gardening journey with all of you. I intentionally waited before making my first post because I wanted to make sure that the plants I would be featuring were already worth flexing. My mini-garden may not be large or fancy, but it has grown steadily over time, and I am proud of every plant that has found a home there.
What makes this tiny garden special is its location. It is situated in the area where I feed my neighbors' chickens as part of one of my side hustles. Since I regularly spend time there, I thought it would be nice to transform the space into something greener and more enjoyable. Little by little, I began planting whatever I could, and before I knew it, the place started looking like a real garden.
One of the plants I personally planted is ampalaya, also known as bitter melon or bitter gourd. While many people focus on harvesting its fruits, I am equally happy just seeing the healthy leaves flourish. Watching a plant grow from a small seedling into something established is always rewarding. Every new leaf feels like a small achievement, especially for someone like me who is still learning more about gardening.
Another plant that I planted myself is gabi or taro. I really love its large, heart-shaped leaves. They easily stand out among the other plants in the area and give the garden a lush, tropical appearance. Whenever it rains, the water droplets resting on the leaves make them look even more beautiful.
Sometimes, I find myself pausing for a few moments just to admire them before continuing my daily routine. One of the most interesting plants in my mini-garden is an aromatic plant that strongly reminds me of pandan. To be honest, I am not entirely sure if it is actually pandan, but its long leaves and pleasant scent make me think it could be. Whenever I walk past it, I notice its refreshing aroma. It adds a relaxing touch to the area and makes my chicken-feeding spot feel a little more inviting. If any members of this community happen to recognize it from the photos, I would love to learn more about it.
I also planted tuba-tuba (Jatropha curcas), which is one of the more unique plants in my little garden. Its leaves have a distinct shape that makes it easy to identify. Although it may not be the most common garden plant, I enjoy having different varieties growing together. Each plant contributes something unique to the overall appearance of the space.
Not all the plants in this area were planted by me. My neighbor planted the papaya tree that now stands proudly in the garden. It adds height and provides a beautiful tropical feel to the area. I always enjoy looking at it whenever I visit. The bamboo growing nearby was also planted by my neighbor. I especially like how it gently sways whenever the wind blows. It brings a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly complements the rest of the garden. Although I cannot claim credit for planting these, they are certainly an important part of what makes the area beautiful.
This mini-garden may not be impressive compared to larger gardens, but it means a lot to me. Every time I go there to feed the chickens, I also get the opportunity to check on my plants, observe new growth, and appreciate nature for a few minutes. What started as a simple side-hustle location has gradually become a place where I can relax and enjoy the fruits of my gardening efforts.
Gardening continues to teach me patience. Plants grow at their own pace, and they remind me that good things take time. Whether in gardening or in life, progress often comes slowly, but every small step matters.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my humble mini-garden. I am excited to be part of the HiveGarden Community and look forward to learning from all of you while continuing my gardening journey.
Happy gardening, Everyone! 🌿💚
