While being behind the scenes of a 17-complete-revolutions of Earth in our solar system from the day I’ve first witnessed the grandeur of our world as a fruit was enchanted by the love of two wonderful people – up to our current time, the different challenges and scenarios I see and experience from our surroundings had been enough to discover realizations regarding who really I am, what I want, and most especially, what’s my purpose and goals in life that I’m willing to stake everything and work hard for.
The name’s Lei Diane C. Casaljay, a female born in the country of the Philippines. I was raised in a very lively household and I have two wonderful brothers – an elder and a younger one.
I always liked listening and tackling certain issues with people, especially if it involves topics for the development of our society. For me, it is one way of broadening my knowledge about the different perspectives, and stand of people around me, as long as we serve healthy exchange of arguments and respect everyone’s opinion. In addition, I’m not afraid of being confronted by criticisms, in fact, I need them to build my own self. And from this, I hope that we can interact and earn proficiency and knowledge from each other! Let’s be mutuals!
As I’m given with the opportunity to share about my own self here, I would like to use this platform to spread my strong advocacies about gender equality.
Growing up being a woman, and an only daughter at that, made me acquire first-hand experiences about what a woman’s stand is in our society. I couldn’t get the repetitive words of the elders out of my mind saying, “You should learn household chores to serve your husband when you grow up.”, “You are a woman, you should act like this…”, “You cannot do hard and labor works, stay at home, and let men do it.”.
Seeing women being restricted of their own capabilities because of the standards settled by the society woken up my ironclad desire to prove that women can do the same things and activities that the society thinks only the opposite sex can do. And from that, I believe that misogynism, and sexism shouldn’t co-exist in our world, especially with our evolving community. Everyone – men, women, and the LGBTQ – should be given equal rights to continue establishing the essence of a harmonious and peaceful society.
On the other hand, high buildings, magnificently-designed constructions, mathematics, physics and arts has always piqued my interests ever since. I have always been fascinated about the science behind how they are made and built. It tickled my curiosities that soon grew into a life objective which led me to becoming a STEM, G11-Hydrogen student of Anselmo A. Sandoval Memorial High School in hopes that it can serve as my stepping stone towards becoming a successful civil engineer. And from that, with me and this title, I would like to create, improve and protect the environment in which we live.
Nonetheless, this professional work choice is merely just a step to my life’s main goal. The trophy of all my hard work will only be claimed once I’m able to completely repay my family’s love and support them in all ways that I can. Afterall, I’m only driven by the pillar they served to aid my life today, and for the more upcoming years. I hope that I’ll be able to strive harder and attain great achievements in the field of work that I’m passionate of.
