One thing I honestly feel like a proper adult should know how to do by now is manage money without stressing myself out.
You would think that once you become an adult, you automatically know how to handle everything including money. You know how much to save, how much to spend, how to pay bills on time, and somehow still have enough left at the end of the month. At least, that is what I thought when I was younger.
But what I don't know then was that the reality is quite different from my imagination.
I’m still figuring it out as I go. Some months I feel like I’m doing really well. I pay everything on time, I manage to save a little, and I even feel proud of myself for being responsible. Then suddenly, something unexpected happens. Maybe a bill is higher than I expected, something breaks, or I have an expense I completely forgot about. Then I’m sitting there looking at my bank account thinking, “Okay... so how are we going to handle this now?”
When that happens, I usually try not to panic. I go through my expenses and see what actually needs to be paid first. I also look at the things I can live without for a while. Sometimes it means delaying something I wanted to buy, or just being more careful with my spending until things settle down. It sounds simple, but honestly, it hasn't always been easy for me.
I remember a few times when I thought I had planned my money perfectly, only for several unexpected expenses to show up almost at the same time. That was stressful because suddenly the budget I had in my head didn't make sense anymore. I had to sit down and work everything out again.
There have also been funny moments. Sometimes I check my account and genuinely wonder how I managed to spend so much money in such a short time. The worst part is when I go through the transactions and realize it wasn't one big purchase. It was all those small things that didn't seem important at the time and somehow they all added up.
Those moments have taught me something, though. Being an adult doesn't mean you always know what you are doing. I used to think grown-ups had everything figured out. Now that I'm actually an adult, I realize most people are just learning as they go.
Sometimes you make a good decision, Sometimes you make a bad one and learn from, sometimes you have to ask someone for advice and sometimes you just have to sit down, look at the problem, and figure out the next step.
I think that's probably what adulthood really is. It's not about having all the answers. It's about being responsible enough to deal with things when they happen, even when you don't feel completely ready.
So yes, I'm still figuring out money, and probably will be for a long time. But I'm learning, and I think that is okay. Nobody really gets a handbook when they become an adult. We just learn from experience, make a few mistakes along the way, and hopefully get a little better at it each time.
Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
