I haven't done a life update post in a while, but todays the day! I know you're all interested in seeing what I've been up to these past few weeks. Buckle up for a boring ride. Here we go!
We are still living at my in laws now, waiting for our home renovation to be completed. We are half way through the project at this point - 7 weeks in with 7 weeks still to go. It been a long time but things are still going well.
My wife started playing the original Sphinx game that she played when she was younger. I really wanted to play Halo on her brother's Xbox and did for about an hour but the Xbox literally broke on me the first day that I played it. I got the red light of death and it stopped working... After that I tried to find the original Zelda game for N64 online - but that fell through so my hankering to play classic video games never really went anywhere. Luckily it worked out for my wife. She bought Sphinx on Steem and plays on the computer some nights.
I've seen a lot of turkeys around here, mostly first thing in the morning and then again in the evening. They move through the grass, across the lawn in large flocks, grazing as they go from one side to the other.
I can never get close to them though. As soon as I go outside they start to move away from the area quite quickly. All of my photos are always taken from far away with a heavy zoom.
One day though, I was driving home from work and a group of 3-4 turkeys were crossing the road. I was able to pull my car up to them really close before they had time to walk away.
I was able to take a video from just 10 feet away and it turned out to be pretty cool. I screen shotted these images from the video so they are still a little blurry.
It's too bad that Peakd never added a video feature to the platform. I wonder why that is?
Okay what else? I changed my snow tires one day back to my all seasons. I won't bore you with the details of that a second time though.
Sping has come in full force now and most of the plants are taking off rapidly.
Everyday there is more green in the trees and more pops of color.
It seems like it went from grey and brown to full on green in a single week.
The magnolias have bloomed and the flowers have already fallen off the trees.
They dont last long but they are such a beautiful tree when they are in bloom.
The tulips in our backyard have pretty much come and gone now too.
Its unfortunate that we are missing spring and will miss part of summer at our house. We wont be able to tend to the garden properly this year or plant new flowers.
Oh well there's always next year.
Something pretty cool but also very sad was that a Robin had made a nest at our house where the renovation is happening. It was in a bad spot on a piece of material outside that needed to be moved so the workers were nice enough to carefully move the nest to a window sill way out of the way of the construction work before tossing the material away.
The Robin laid some eggs there and was doing fine for several weeks. Then one day we went to look at the house and noticed that the nest had fallen from the sill and the Robin and her eggs were gone. Unfortunately, I think an animal got to it, which is pretty sad. I'm sure that the Robin survived but her eggs definitely didn't make it. I saw the shells below the window.
I made a stew one night
and my wife made strawberry shortcake... just a random meal we ate. I took photos so I may as well post them.
We don't watch a lot of TV here so I managed to finish a book recently. It was called "Trust" by Hernan Diaz and was a Pulitzer prize winning book. I didn't like it as much as the Wager by David Grann (I read that earlier this year) but it was still pretty good.
Having more time on my hands living in someone else's house has given me the opportunity to start working out again. This is after a long long hiatus. It's been a few years since the last time I worked out. I've decided to make a sort of outdoor gym here with random logs and stones that I've found around the property. I plan on mostly just sawing and chopping at this large log I found that was recently cut down. Maybe I'll lift and carry some cynder blocks around the yard or something as well - I saw some of those on the property also. Perhaps I'll make a post about it if it goes well.
I think that it for whats going on with me these days. I always think that these updates will be interesting but then I write them out and think that they must be pretty boring really. Nonetheless there you have it. Enjoy the rest of your day. Byeeee!
