For the next installment of my family trip to Austria I thought I might share some photos and information about the hotels that we stayed in as we made our way through the country. During our time in France, when we lived there, we did a lot of traveling around. Normally we would just stay in cheap hotels to save some money.
This time was a little different though because it was a family vacation and we were with my in laws who hadn't travelled at all in the past few years because of covid. Understandably they were a little more inclined to stay in nice accommodations, beyond the bare minimum that we were accustomed to. It was a nice change for us to say the least.
The first hotel was the Hotel Grand Ferdinand, in the city of Vienna. Its the only hotel of the trip that I actually remember the name of. I think its probably because there was a giant taxidermied horse right there in the lobby. I assumed it was once named Ferdinand so the name just stuck with me.
Ferdinand seems like the name of a horse to me, no offense if thats your actual name mind you. It also makes for a good human name as well.
Anyway, it's not everyday that you see a life sized horse in a hotel lobby so no wonder it stood out for me.
The hotel wasn't a large chain but more of an owner operated establishment. The rooms were pretty decent, though the photos don't really do them justice.
The bed was comfortable as one would hope and the room was decorated a little less minimally than normal.
The shower facing the bed was a little different, but who really needs privacy when you're showering?
The toilet was separate of course. That was the important thing. As the sitcom Seinfeld pointed out, there is good and bad nudity. Shower nudity = good. Toilet nudity = bad.
Okay that's all I got for the first hotel.
The name of the next one escapes me but it's where we stayed in the city of Salzburg. It was quite different than the first hotel.
The rooms were larger and had a more modern decor. For some reason I only took photos of the bathroom. We were probably in a hurry to go to dinner when we arrived and probably messed up the room emptying our bags to get ready and I certainly wasn't going to clean a hotel room to take photos of it.
The bathroom was quite large by most European standards though, at least in comparison to the ones that we had experienced. Sometimes big bathrooms just have a lot of wasted space.
The most interesting part of this hotel was the glass centerpiece hanging in the stairway. It looked like Murano glass to me, though I know absolutely nothing about murano glass so i have no business calling it such. Nonetheless it was an impressive piece of artwork.
The hotel had a glass theme about it with many sculptures and glass artwork in the lobby.
Okay that is all that I have for our hotels at this point in the trip. I hope that you enjoyed my brief showcase of them.
