After our hike along the Southern Balcony we made our way to the town of Chamonix to check into our Airbnb. It was located on the outskirts of the city about a 10-15 minute walk into the town center. I found that to be a good distance to work up an appetite before dinner and then work off some extra calories afterwards.
The homes along the street were these quaint little cottages and cabins that reminded me a lot like the country houses and small town homes that you see in Switzerland. Chamonix is quite close to Switzerland so that makes sense I suppose.
The mountains in the background created a great view and really added to the picturesque look and feel of the entire area.
At night, or dusk rather, the setting sun reflected off the mountains and made them look this bright golden color.
A little later the color shifted from golden yellow to a nice pink. It was really pretty and not something that I get to see very often.
The Airbnb that we stayed in was a small apartment building that was painted bright yellow with dark wood accents. It had some serious ski chalet vibes about it, which also made sense given that Chamonix is essentially a ski village.
I didn't take many photos inside the Airbnb but mainly focused on the view from the back balcony,
and of the balcony itself, as you can see.
Me: "I must take a photo of this basket of pinecones!!!"
Let that be a lesson to everyone out there, a little bit of pinecones goes a long way.
From the balcony we could see the snow capped mountains in the background.
"Hey, where the hell did the pinecones go!?!"
There was also a large stream that passed through the space.
On a few occasions we saw yellow dinghy's go by with white water rafters inside.
The view from my room was the same.
My sister slept in the living room and she liked to spend the evenings sitting on the porch since it was beside her bed.
I sat there and enjoyed a coffee one morning before we headed out for the day.
That really was a great spot to enjoy a coffee and a good way to start the day. I could get used to a view like that.
