Between the 1990s and 2000s there were more than 100 different internet-currencies in development. Many of them relied on strong cryptography. Today one of them is still alive: PayPal. In 2008 Bitcoin changed the game. Many of the Internet currencies failed not because people didn't used them, no because the central authority behind the currency failed.
Back in 2013 Facebook had a digital token called FC/Facebook-Credits - 2013. 10 Years before in 2003, the Chinese social media giant Tencent had it´s QQ-Coin. QQ-Coin was so heavily used for online transactions, that it was a threat to the national currency. In both cases, the regulators shut the currencies down.
Without a central authority, Facebooks dream can now come true. We know that decentralization is just a buzzword, its a binary criterion. A real measure for decentralization is the distribution. This is why its called distributed ledger and not decentralized ledger. Bitcoin in its most primitive version - the Satoshi client, is a gossip-P2P Protocol.
Of course the Miners Layer is still P2P, but the communication between nodes is not. Eos, Steem, Tron are even "worse", the Set of Block-producers is permissioned, to a closed set of 21 BPs or "Witnesses". But still they are distributed (or at least they should be or can be distributed) on the social layer, because the BPs are voted by the users.
Facebooks consortium chain is neither an open P2P System nor a delegated Proof of Stake System.
The Libra Blockchain will be decentralized, consisting of a collection of validators that work together
to process transactions and maintain the state of the blockchain.
A collection means that it is a permissioned set of BP, selected by a central authority. Hence it's a fast corporate Blockchain. Not more not less. It is more distributed than Facebook alone, it is decentralized, but it has nothing to do with Bitcoin, even Steem, Bitshares, Eos, Tron are a different game because Libra is still fucking clustered.
The worst thing for a permissioned Blockchain is when the Blockproducers sleep with each other. This makes the difference between Bitcoin and Bullshit.
not a good Idea to take a majority of BPs which contains only corporations which are disrupted by blockchain
Vodafone is a big digital payment company in the so-called "third world" (M-Pesa since 2007)
Visa ...well no need for explanation
Facebook...again
PayPal... lel
Uber...
Lyft...
Mastercard...
This is not a recipe for freedom, this is a list of companies which hate open crypto-currencies (like the Indian government does) because they will make them obsolete. Libra, in my opinion, is a big attack against the crypto space ... and as you know: attacks make the space stronger :) Steem this is your chance
