Qutub Minar : Qutub Minar is the second tallest Minar and at the same time the tallest tower in India (73 m). This magnificent structure is made up of red sandstone and marble. Before 1981 the visitors were allowed to go upstairs by covering all the 379 steps to reach its top. But after an accident, now it is a prohibited area. But people are allowed to visit the mosque in the base and it is regarded as the first mosque builtin India. This magnificent building has a base diameter of 14.3 meters which narrows to 2.7 at the top.
Qutb-ud-din-Aibak Constructed it as a symbol of victory, after defeating the last Hindu King in Delhi. This sky scrapper building has five storeys,each marked with a projecting balcony. The building was affected by many natural disasters like Lightening and earth quakes but the rulers repaired it at once and preserved it for the future generation. The tower stands not only as one of the finest monuments in India, but also in the world. It is includedin the world Heritage list of the UNESCO
