Last year for winter break I took my annual trip up north to visit family on my dads side of the family. I stayed for three days north of Seattle and decided that on my way back south I would take a minor detour and go see Mt St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Along i5 the roads looked fine and I expected to be able to drive up and at least view the mountain from a distance.
Driving conditions were good considering there was a couple inches of snow on the ground. The snow was fresh and there weren't that many other tracks so my subaru with studded tires got me up the mountain to the first observatory just fine.
Unfortunately for me the further up the mountain the further into the clouds I traveled which reduced visibility significantly. I snapped a photo of the sign just so I had proof that I had made it even though it was barely visible.
I found another sign with more lettering visible next to a family playing with sleds along the road. I stopped here and enjoyed the crisp mountain air and snapped one more picture with my subaru feeling accomplished that even though I hadn't seen the mountain, I did make it up to the top safely. Thanks for looking!!!
