There are times we get obsessed with a particular habit and we won't know until it's been said to our face. I didn't pay attention to my habit of breaching agreement and I can't thank my hostel mates enough for helping me realize my shortcomings of keeping agreement.
It was on a weekend when I had nothing to do and was bored in the hostel. I tried seeing a movie but it didn't work, I wasn't in the mood for anything indoor, the four walls of my room were annoying me somehow so I decided to step out of the house.
I walked out of the room to enjoy some fresh air, hoping it will help me feel better and as I was plugging my earphones, I noticed some of my hostel occupants outside as well so I joined them to see what happening with them.
I sat down and joined their discussion, we spoke about different things that helped me shift boredom away almost immediately.
One thing led to the other and someone suggested that we played a game. It sounded fun to me and I couldn't say no to them.
The game was about saying something about someone without mentioning their name, whoever knows the person gets the point and whoever ends up with the lowest point will buy everyone a bottle of soft drink each. We took turns in describing someone and the game was fun.
I enjoyed it until one of the girls said, "There is someone here who love to breach agreement and whenever people breach agreement with her, she always get angry, who is she?".
I was racking my brain to think of who it was but the way everyone was staring at me made me uncomfortable.
"What?", I asked and one of them summoned the courage to mention my name in response to the description the last person said.
I was pissed and argued with them about having a wrong assumption about me. They apologized and the game went on for a while, it was really a good game for me.
In the end, the score was announced and I was sitting at the bottom of the list. They teased me about being terrible at the game but it didn't bother me because it helped with boredom.
I was about leaving when they asked me for their drinks and I just told them that I don't have money. They all burst into laughter and chorused," We knew you won't fulfill your part of the agreement".
For the first time in my life, I realized that I have been breaching agreement. We talked and I reasoned thoroughly about it, I apologized for all the previous breached agreement and made up my mind to always keep to agreement.
Because of that, I became very careful with making agreement with people.
