Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia with around 1 million people. It's the biggest city in Croatia, but in comparison to Istanbul, New York or Tokyo, Zagreb is very small.
Honestly, we don't like living in the big city and we dream of living by the sea one day, in some small town. I think people are more relaxed and happier by the sea, probably because of the fresh air and no crowds. In a big city, there is this atmosphere where people are always stressed and in a hurry, like flies without heads.
Of course, there are a lot of good sides to living in the city, like job opportunities, big supermarkets, places to go out and so on. But, we think that health&happiness has to be a priority in life and we always feel much better breathing the fresh air and meditating by the sea.
But we are not complaining about living in Zagreb, it's a beautiful city with great history, cuisine and many nice places!
You may not know, but this city really suffered a lot because of the horrible earthquake in 1880. It destroyed many buildings in Zagreb and many people fled or moved out. And there was another big one last year when covid just started...I was sleeping in my bed and suddenly everything started shaking like crazy and there was this horrible deep sound. I yelled the whole time not knowing what was going on. I have never experienced anything like that, my first thought was that the war just started. I honestly thought I was gonna die. This earthquake caused major material damage, for example, the top of the south tower of the Zagreb Cathedral was damaged. It just felt like the worst movie ever, covid pandemic and earthquake at the same time. I remember at that time they told us to go outside because the buildings may not be safe and on the other hand they told us to stay home because of covid...
One day after all this chaos calmed down, we woke up early in the morning and went to the city centre to capture the photos when most people were still asleep. We really enjoyed walking the streets and sightseeing in our hometown.

This is Zagreb's funicular which connects downtown and upper town. It's the shortest cable railway in the world! It was officially put into operation back in 1890.
