Maybe I’m a little late, but not too much, hahaha. This photograph, as you well know, evokes or focuses on something that many Venezuelan households do: putting up the Christmas tree. And my home is no exception. Every November—and I mean every November—we put up the Christmas tree, and that tradition was born in my home ever since we had a home. And by “home,” I mean the one I formed with my wife, because let’s be clear, there are many forms of homes.
In my first paragraph, I mentioned that it’s a bit late, and the reason is because this photograph was one I used for my contest that I hold every Friday, Observe, Think, Write. At the time of posting that photo, I was supposed to make a publication the following day, but for several reasons, I simply didn’t do it. And well, today I’m here explaining the meaning of the photo.
I also mentioned that we always put up the tree in November, and by tradition we do it before my eldest daughter’s birthday. However, over time, the date for putting up the Christmas tree has changed, and one of the reasons is the space it takes up. Before, we would set it up before November 15 because that’s my daughter’s birthday, but now that she’s grown and always invites her friends, the living room feels small with the tree there. So we decided to put it up after the 15th, and we’ve been doing that for several years now.
I wanted to write about this photo before the year 2025 ended, but it turns out I’m writing it today, January 24.
