Shadow and complicity

I hadn’t been able to participate in the Shadow Contest dynamic for a long time, and I must say it was my youngest daughter who reminded me to join in.

Yesterday, August 19th, I was heading out to the university very early in the morning—more precisely, it was 6:38 a.m.

Before going down the stairs, my youngest daughter said: “Dad, dad, look at the building’s shadows, they’re perfect for the shadow hunter contest!”

Immediately and without thinking twice, I grabbed my phone, switched it to camera mode, and that was it—I took a few shots of those shadows reflected thanks to the good old sun.

The first one I liked most because you can see the shadow of the entire building reflected on the building across the street, and the shadow of the person standing there—that’s me taking the photo.

It’s hard to believe, but simple things like a shadow appeal to me because they can hold beauty in how they reflect against another object—in this case, the shadow of a building.

I’ll try to become more active, or at least follow my daughter’s advice. Sometimes we get carried away by routine, responsibilities, fatigue… and we forget that simple moments can reconnect us with what we love. My daughter reminded me that you don’t need a big photographic production or a special occasion to capture something beautiful. You just need to be present, pay attention, and let yourself be surprised.

And the fact that it was my daughter Sofia who encouraged me to participate fills me with joy. It’s as if she reminded me that there’s still room for creativity, for sharing, for enjoying. So yes, I’ll follow her advice. Because beyond the contest, what truly matters is that shared moment, that sense of connection, and the desire to keep seeing the world with curiosity.

Sombra y complicidad

Tenía mucho tiempo sin poder participar dentro de esta dinámica The Shadow Contest, debo decir que fue mi hija menor quien me recordó participar.

El día de ayer, 19 de agosto, saliendo para la universidad muy temprano en la mañana, para ser más exacto eran las 6:38 de la mañana.

Antes de bajar las escaleras, mi hija menor me dijo: “Papá, papá, mira las sombras del edificio, están excelentes para el concurso de cazador de sombras”.

De inmediato y sin pensarlo dos veces, agarré mi celular, lo puse en modo cámara y listo, hice unas capturas de esas sombras que se reflejan gracias al señor sol.

La que está de primera me gustó porque se ve la sombra de todo el edificio reflejado en el edificio del frente y la sombra de la persona que está allí, soy yo tomando la foto.

Parece mentira, pero cosas tan simples como una sombra me gustan porque pueden contener belleza en cómo se reflejan delante de otro objeto, en este caso la sombra de un edificio.

Trataré de volverme más activo o por lo menos seguiré los consejos de mi hija. A veces uno se deja llevar por la rutina, por las responsabilidades, por el cansancio… y olvida que hay momentos sencillos que pueden reconectarnos con lo que nos gusta. Mi hija me hizo recordar que no hace falta una gran producción fotografica ni una ocasión especial para capturar algo hermoso. Solo hace falta estar presente y mirar con atención y dejarse sorprender.

Además, de que sea mi hija Sofía quien fue la que me impulso a participar, me llena de alegría. Es como si ella me recordara que aún hay espacio para la creatividad, para compartir, para disfrutar. Así que sí, seguiré sus consejos. Porque más allá del concurso, lo que realmente vale es ese instante compartido, esa complicidad, y el deseo de seguir viendo el mundo con curiosidad.
