I was looking at an article on bitcoin lending and saw this caption, and I got excited to see Coinbase allowing mortgage loans with bitcoin as the collateral for the loan.
I was surprised to hear of this, but disappointed to find it was only for the downpayment and another loan was needed for the actual home mortgage.
But the good news is that the bitcoin loan doesn't have margin requirements and it has no margin call feature, so that is an improvement for bitcoiners.
I thought about it, and while I give Coinbase credit for making this possible, I see that the loan is now backed by the home and bitcoin, so in away it is double collateralized.
So very little risk for Coinbase that they won't get their money back.
A win for the bitcoiner, a win for Coinbase, win wins are good.
