Checking in from Italy!
Summer is probably only just beginning to get into full swing. You can see it in the constantly rising temperatures outside. I honestly cannot remember ever having such a hot June with temperatures this high in Poland.
Summer is also the time of year when the colors of the fields begin to change. Driving a truck and covering so many kilometers every day, I get to watch the landscape outside my window transform year after year. During the summer, the green scenery slowly turns into shades of gold.
Even though summer has only just begun, the harvest season is already starting in some European countries. I am beginning to see straw bales left in the fields, and every time I pass them, they bring a smile to my face because I really love this view.
Fortunately, I still have a few photos from last year and today I am happy to share them with you.
Have you ever wondered why hay and straw bales are usually round? Their shape is no coincidence. It allows the material to be easily rolled and compacted by round balers. Round bales are also more resistant to rain, as their shape helps protect the inside from moisture. In addition, this shape requires less compression during the baling process, which in turn reduces energy consumption. They can also be rolled and moved more easily without the use of heavy machinery.
You have probably also noticed that bales are often wrapped with netting or plastic film. The netting keeps the bale from falling apart and makes it much easier to transport and store. Plastic film, on the other hand, is mainly used for silage bales. Its purpose is to keep air out, allowing the forage to retain its nutritional value and be stored for a long time.
