I’m not a fan of Trump’s policy, yet I see his point and how it translates to a personal level. You don’t want these people in your life, you keep them out. You don’t want the burden of negative feelings the outside world keeps shoving your way, you raise your mental barriers.
Sometimes there are just too many things bothering you, problems you cannot solve, bad situations you have no control over - if you let everything in what does it accomplish? Nothing, except making you feel miserable. It doesn’t solve any problems.
The same goes for negative people you have to deal with, both in real and in virtual life. Do I have to subject myself to interacting with people who do nothing but bring down my energy levels? I don’t mean this metaphorically, as I have experienced many times that energy drain that leaves me almost narcoleptic after negative encounters.
Our society is built in such a way there’s only so much you can do to protect yourself. You just cannot tell someone you don’t like their attitude, not in so many words anyway, if you don’t want to appear rude. You cannot walk up to someone and say ‘Man, you’re so full of shit!’ and still remain on civil terms. The most elegant solution I could find is keeping such people away. In real life, yeah, the cost was quite high, but I chose not to explain my actions. Again, how do you tell someone you no longer want to see them because you find them full of negativity and quite annoying?
As for the virtual world, my FB feed now offers me mainly news, as most of the real persons got unfriended, because I just couldn’t stand negativity, hateful posts, propaganda. You’re out of my universe and I don’t really care what you think about it.
As for the negative feelings, just busy your mind with something else. Something creative, preferably - like writing a post, it’s guaranteed to keep all other thoughts out. Or simply feed the brain with something else, even crap TV if that’s what it takes. I’d rather go for a good book if I can, but anything will do. It doesn’t solve unsolvable problems, but it keeps you from obsessing over some issue and it silences any unspoken rant in your head, like the ‘you’re full of shit one’. Since you won’t ever say that to their faces (real or virtual) much better to wall yourself into your world, ignoring the negativity out there.
