I can't say I'm as prepared as you tho, no generator but we do have gas for cooking, a lot of candles and terracotta pots for heat for winter. Of course guns and ammo, might lack experience using them compared to you but we have them and I learn fast. Of course I do have a good arsenal of knives of all kinds and sizes to slice and dice just about anything (even a few swords too). I'm not a big meat eater aside from the occasional half a cow on plate but being part indigenous I do have knowledge on wild edible plants and medicinal properties plus a good arsenal of books for Identification purpose of those I may not be familiar with. I know what water is safe to drink as well if our stores run out.

It may sound naive at first glance but you do good in the universe and it will provide everything you need. I grew up eating wild plants since most of the time after bills, my parents had $20 left to feed 5 for a week. Foraged foods can be exchanged for other goods like meat, milk and eggs or even $$. My ancestor was responsible for the first successful french settlements of 109 families in North-America because of indigenous relationships and this type of knowledge, all prior attempts 90% died of scurvy in the winter so I know it is a sustainable model in the worst of times. Other skills can be exchanged for goods if required (being pretty helps too...lol) People forget that hunger is a state of mind and not because of actual starvation, as long as you have the proper nutrients to maintain the immune system and body functions, things are ok-ish .

I don't see anything wrong with having some debt but some just go overboard with it especially in Alberta. Stuff you can cash in points for gift cards and then pay it off right away is always a good strategy. We are the richest province in Canada because of our oil and energy plus we are the bread basket of Canada, growing grains for much of the world as well but our economy is a series of boom and bust cycles and sometimes people forget that during boom times and never take account for the hardship that comes during the busts and live the millionaire lifestyle with the big house (mortgage) and all the toys for big boys on credit and end up losing it all when times aren't as good for a few consecutive months, we have high suicide rates because of that too. We have this saying "Please god, give us another boom, I promise not to piss it away this time".

Of course precious metals is a must and it has served me well so far. I have been slowly accumulating most of my adult life and looking back, it saved my purchasing power on long term savings against currency devaluation . Like you said, does it mean we will be ok? No, but we will make it better and longer than the average in an all out crisis, or even just overall with the status quo.
