Having some level of self-reliance is a responsible thing to do I believe. This is why I proudly call myself prepared. I am the same as you and have 2-3 months of non-perishable foods, water, medical supplies, solar power, generator, home security and protection measures, communications etc. all locked in and ready to go.

I am a shooter, have a lot of guns and a lot of skill in using them, from handguns, long range rifles, shotguns etc. Make my own ammunition, can hunt, track, trap, navigate, have outdoor survival skills, first aid skills etc. I see this as the minimum. And yet, some people (with kids even) don't know CPR, basic first aid or have a fire evacuation plan in the house, seat belt cutter and glass breaker in the car...It's irresponsible.

Living on credit is the most stupid thing in the world. We do't do it. Sure we have a credit card, but it is paid off in full at the end of the month, every month. We use it to gain Qantas frequent flyer points, then exchange those points for gift cards at the supermarket. We get about $2,000 a year from it. We need of want buy and every non-essential item is calculated and considered prior to purchase. I throw more into gold and silver than anything else.

Does all of this mean we'll be ok? Nope. Does all of this mean we will cope better? Yes. That's good enough for me...And I have to say, I walk the streets with a lot of confidence knowing that I can be relied upon. When others panic, along comes a prepper to make it all ok, or better than it was, at least.
