Saludos.
After more than ten months of hard work—juggling the morning rush before heading to work, coming home during blackouts to cook over firewood or charcoal to feed our families, and bringing home lesson plans or paperwork to finish in the wee hours because there simply wasn't enough time during the day; listening to our young students' amusing remarks while also watching them fall asleep in class because they hadn't slept well the night before or seeing them try to eat their snacks too early—we have finally finished the school year and are officially on vacation. To celebrate—because we both deserve and need it—we went for a swim and enjoyed some delicious caldosa (a hearty stew) at a pool made available to us by a student's father. It was just us teachers—since we are all women—along with our children; we had a wonderful time sharing laughs and memories. Now it’s time to recharge for the coming school year and keep dealing with blackouts and charcoal—and, in my case, managing my small business as well. Best regards.
