Recently,a friend of mine on Facebook was screaming "don't borrow money if you can't pay back". He sounded so frustrated on Facebook because his friend has refused to pay him the money he owed him. From the way he presented the post, he did it such that his friend that was owing him will see the post and know that he was referring to him and probably knows how he feels.
Never lend money to a friend except you are prepared to let go off the money. Because if you insist on getting the money back when they are not willing to pay you. It may cost you your relationship with them.
From the way my Facebook friend sounded, it seems that his money was more important to him than the relationship. So, in my opinion, if the money was that important to him, why give it out in the first place?
Well, I lent a friend a certain amount last year which he promised to return in two weeks, it's getting to a year now and he has not yet returned the money....Lol!
There are many reasons why a person cannot return the money you lent them, one reason could be the same reason that made them opt to borrow money from you. Another reason could be that some people are just funny, they just think that you that lent them the money has no use for it. Another reason is that some folks don't just know how to leave within their means.
My cousin lent her dad 450,000 Nigerian Naira some time ago and she is complaining her dad has not paid her back. Well, I think it's unrealistic for him to pay back because whatever she is and has today,her dad made it possible.
Overtime, I have learnt this few things;
1)Lend money only if the non-return is not going to matter to you.
2)Lend only the amount that you can let go.
3)If you lend money to a loved one and they return it to you, count your blessings and be grateful for the bonus.
4)If you insist that they pay you back the money they owe you, it might cost you your relationship with the person.
Life is simple, human beings make it complicated. We make mistakes of lending our loved ones money and expect them to return it and when they don't, we get hurt or disappointed.
To keep your life simple, don't ever lend your love ones money, they would never pay it back. So who should you lend money to? I don't know, but matter whom,they would never pay you back!
