This is my first ever entry for the weekly #POBPhotocontest since I discovered it a few weeks ago. I didn't get the chance to take part in the first one I came across because it was already too late, so I had to wait for the next round which turned out to be a bit weird for me (photos about square) and I couldn't think of any creative thing for that round, so I sat that one out.
I came across this week's photo contest earlier today and the topic is something I can relate to: traveling. I just thought to myself; "hey, you traveled to a mega city some few months back, why not create a post with a picture from that journey?", and that's what gave birth to this. The photo I will be using is the one below
That's a picture of a bank I came across while on my journey and it's one of the tallest bank buildings I have ever seen. It might sound weird that it was the first time I was seeing a tall and unique building like this one but let me just start my story from the top.
I have always lived in a small city in my country for most of my life and I have gotten used to seeing buildings of small and medium sizes. The bank buildings over here are nothing impressive and they are just like every other commercial building. A few months ago, my classmates and I traveled to another state (Lagos) for our industrial training program which lasted a month.
That was the first time I was traveling to Lagos, I have always heard stories of the magnificent buildings over there and the impressive landscape, but I will be seeing them for the first time and won't have to rely on word of mouth from other people. I got to Lagos and my first impression wasn't that great, I felt the state was hyped out of proportion because I wasn't seeing any impressive buildings until I got to a city known as Lekki, which is on Lagos Island.
I opened my mouth in awe as I kept coming across more and more impressive-looking buildings. I forgot to take pictures of most of them coz I was just admiring the architectural designs of those buildings. The buildings that are more unique looking and impressive than the rest are the banks (just like the one I shared). As I stated earlier, the bank buildings back in my city were not very impressive, they are smaller and look just like other buildings, but the ones in Lekki were more sophisticated and breathtaking.
I could recognize most of the banks because they were the same as the ones we have back in my city but the stack difference in architectural design and size of the buildings were huge. They were more impressive ones than the one I posted but l totally forgot to take pictures of them coz of the mesmerizing effects they had on me.
I remembered to take pictures when I was staring at the one I posted and thinking; "my siblings won't believe these are the same banks we have back in our city. Oh sh*it! I forgot to take pictures" and that was how I took that photo while our vehicle was moving. I had to take several shots to make sure I got good angles that weren't blurry (a lot of them were blurry).
I regretted not taking pictures of the other bank buildings I saw which are even more sophisticated and massive than the one I took but I am still grateful I was able to take a picture of one of them. It would have been easier if I was on foot and I could have easily gone back to take photos of the others, but I was in a moving vehicle and can't really tell them to go back so I can take pictures.
I plan on going back to Lagos in the future and taking a tour of the island. There are lots of other things I couldn't see while I was there some months back and I will also like to take a closer look at those magnificent buildings, I just hope I won't forget to take pictures again 馃槅
