Study Says That People Who Undergo Rhinoplasty Tend to Have Higher Perfectionism, More Rumination, and Lower Self-Compassion

The research titled “Exploring the Personality Characteristics of Rhinoplasty Patients” (2024) analyzed psychological characteristics between rhinoplasty patients and non-cosmetic surgery patients. The study revealed that rhinoplasty patients displayed higher perfectionism levels and tended to ruminate more but self-compassion levels were only slightly different from the control group. The rhinoplasty patient group showed that perfectionism levels increased with rumination but self-compassion levels decreased when rumination increased. The research indicates rhinoplasty patients possess unique psychological characteristics which surgeons should evaluate before surgery to enhance patient satisfaction through better expectation management.
