Took a walk to the back end of the Beaver Dam this morning. On the way, we spotted this lovely Luna Moth.
Those that follow may remember I did a drone flight over the Creek and Beaver Dams a few months ago in winter, and described how they have flooded out our ATV trail and changed the landscape dramatically.
The one area of the creek is now a flooded swamp, over 50 yards across and up to about waist or maybe even shoulder deep in some places. What used to be our ATV trail is now waist deep. I'm sure it's quickly becoming a breeding ground for mosquitos and such. More on that later.
We visited the back end of the Beaver Dam today. This is what the back side looks like. On the other side, the water level is right at the top of the Dam.
This part is where the main creek channel used to be.... You can somewhat see the cut through the trees, overhanging on each side from where it previously ran unimpeded for years (maybe decades).
This view is a little farther left. At this point the Dam is over 6 ft tall. The Dam goes at least another 30 feet to the left and over 40 yards to the right. Yes, it is huge.
It's just barely a trickle here now where the main channel used to be, and the part 40 yards to the right is now flooding over the edge of the Dam and flooding what used to be a dry ATV trail, now over waist deep.
I plan to open this Dam back up tomorrow, right about the center here, where the main channel was and really should be again. Hopefully, this will return the waterflow to it's normal path, and also dry our trail back out.
The method I'm using should be quick and fairly exciting. I did some prep work today, so almost ready. Check back tomorrow or next week or follow for the process and end result.
