On the 6th of July 2023, Mark Zuckerberg shook the social media space with the release of his Twitter alternative which he calls Threads (sounds familiar, right?)
Threads “by Mark” is a microblogging platform under the umbrella of the Meta family of which Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp belong to.
Indeed, many social media users have acclaimed Threads “by Mark” as a worthy alternative of Twitter, not necessarily because of the quality of the application but because of the reputation of the CEO in the Social media space. Yes, Mark Zuckerberg is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Meta platform which houses three of the top social media platforms in the world with large userbase and millions of daily active users. With such reputation, Threads has already gathered millions of registered users just within the first 24 hours of its emergence.
But... Is Threads by Mark worth the hype?
Yes, Threads is worth the Hype.
I mean Our Threads, but sadly enough our Threads doesn’t have much Hype like Their Threads.
Are you lost?
Don’t be!
I refer to Threads by Mark as their Threads, and Threads by Leofinance as Our Threads.
In case you don’t know, Threads by Leofinance is a microblogging platform built on a blockchain (Hive). Unlike Twitter which is owned by the Bossy Elon, or “their Threads” which is owned by the Sneaky Mark, our Threads isn’t owned by an individual, but it is owned by a community; a community which you can become part of, and become a shareholder! This is the beauty of decentralization.
In our Threads, you own your account and no bossy and sneaky boss can suspend or terminate your account, neither can they censor your posts/threads. Lest I forget, you can also earn on every thread you make!
Amazing, right?
If you are objective enough, you’ll agree with me that our Thread is worth the Hype, however, in reality their Threads is crushing it!
Why is this so?
Does their Thread have better features than our Thread, or why are people welcoming their Thread more than our Thread?
Undoubtedly, Mark’s Public Relations Team does an incredible work with their advertisement, little wonder his platforms are among the top best social media platforms with large userbase in the world. However, it is important to note that with Mark’s current reputation in the Social Media space, a little PR on any product he makes will easily make crazy sales. Thus, we can attribute the massive hype of Their Threads to Mark’s reputation and his Good Public Relations Team.
We do not have same popularity or reputation as Mark does to conquer the social media space at a go, hence this will require good consistent public relations to break the space. Also, getting big social media handlers to jump in our Threads with their followers will also help, to an extent.
Here is one thing that Web 2 platforms pride themselves in, especially Mark’s platforms. They make their onboarding and registration so easy such that an 8-year-old child can easily sign up and use the platform without guidance from anyone.
Our Threads has undergone through various stages of development, and, I believe, at this stage we are better off with our simple onboarding method, and making our User Interface friendly enough. However, there is always room for improvement to work on mistakes and get better as well.
With the hype of Threads, I’ve come to realize and confirm that one of the major features needed in any social media platform is the uploading of files. Once it is easy to upload files, you’ll get more people willing to share their content to the world. But, when there are restrictions on sharing files, it takes us back to the stone age or age where only text messages without illustrations where used. Sadly, that is not the era we are in at this moment.
The issue of successfully uploading images on our Threads for Mobile had people worried for a long time, although I believe this will be a thing of the past pretty soon. However, my greatest concern in terms of uploading files is the possibility for a smooth way to upload videos or short videos on threads. I hope to see how the collaboration with 3speak will work in this regard.
Some other ideas from Their Threads include:
While I can say with utmost certainty that Our Threads have lots of features better than their Threads, I still believe that we should never lose sight of continuous development to ensure that we bring out the best. And, I am glad that the developers are always active and busy with updating the features of our Thread. I look forward to when our Threads takes its rightful place in the heart and devices of millions of users.
