Gina has bipolar disorder, it was never a choice she chose. It just turned out to be her fate. Sometimes it feels the world is better off without her, for she can be a monster in many ways when she is out of control. So we keep our distance from her, and maybe that's the smartest thing to do for she is unstable and her moods do swing as fast as lightening.
However, if we look at her condition from an open minded perspective we will realise she is actually the real victim! A victim of nature and the cruelty of life!
Unlike us she wasn't given a fair chance to choose her tomorrow or the fate of her yesterday. The sanity of her existence is sustained by some pills, pills she is condemned to feed on for the rest of her life. It really must be tiring. And the hardest part is, she has to keep this burden a secret and her pills safe, because once people know of her disorder she becomes a lesser person in their eyes. A bad news they need to keep away from. But this is wrong!
I feel rather than sidelining her, we should make her feel loved and accepted. Be there for her, tolerate her and ensure she never gets tired of taking her pills. I know its easier said than done, but shouldn't we at least try? Remember, she never chose to be sick.
Today I wrote this fiction to celebrate all those living with bipolar disorder or similar afflictions, you all are the real heroes. And to the rest of us let's learn not to judge them too quickly..
